From CAPS to PositiveFaith: Rebranding for Inclusion

Faith is a universal human experience that transcends culture, nationality, language, and even religion.

For some time, while we are very comfortable of course with our Catholic roots and Passionist theology, we have been asking ourselves whether the name CAPS (or Catholics for AIDS Prevention & Support) was serving us and the people we support in the best possible way.

Was it not perhaps limiting, in some ways exclusive?

Over the last couple of years, we have consulted with our members and looked to other groups doing work around HIV across the globe and have spent some time looking at what a more ecumenical name would mean for our identity.

We are a Catholic charity, but 65% of our members identify as either Christian 'other', Muslim, spiritual or unknown!

A few years ago, we ran a project that you may remember that was called PositiveFaith. This project was to create a series of video resources designed to help people living with HIV, and help churches and communities to be better equipped to welcome people living with HIV. This project was extremely successful and continues to be our flagship resource, and so choosing to use the more ecumenical name, PositiveFaith for all of our member-facing activities, from support groups and residential retreats to educational activities was an obvious choice.

We believe that the name PositiveFaith is more representative of who we are and who we serve, and also reflects the ecumenical identity that many faith-based organisations have adopted across the UK and Ireland over the last few years.

We are proud to have developed this new branding and a new approach to our communications in the last 12 months and are pleased to announce the launch of our new website, which puts our pastoral mission at the heart of our communications to the community.

We believe in the power of love to transform the lives of people living with HIV for the better. And we believe that faith communities have a key role to play in this.

We're looking forward to hearing what you think of our new PositiveFaith website, and meeting with you at the annual World AIDS Day service on Saturday 4th December. Click here to book your place and add it to your calendar.
